"OUR PLACE" YOUNG PARENTS PROGRAM

ANGER MANAGEMENT/CONFLICT RESOLUTION & CHARACTER DEV. PROGRAM

This program is designed to help  teens make wise choices for themselves and others, and develop positive character traits such as tolerance and self-control, responsibility and self-respect.

The program incorporates a holistic, strengths-based, solution-focused approach in order to assist teens to develop positive relationships with others and effective problem-solving strategies for coping with difficult situations.

It aims to identify the role that anger plays in the teens' lives--at home, at school, and in the community--and help teens understand anger as an emotion they can control.

Who is the group intended for?
The program is offered to teens from 12 to 17 years old.

Duration
Every Tuesday 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. for eight weeks.

Where will the sessions take place?
The sessions are held at the Amcal Residence on 7 Ste-Anne Street in Pointe-Claire.

"OUR PLACE" YOUNG PARENTS PROGRAM 

"Our Place" is a drop-in program of education and social support for young parents. It helps develop parenting skills as well as strenghths such as self-esteem and independence. The program offers a friendly neighbourhood space where mothers with children (aged less than five years) can develop friendships, explore life dreams and plans, take a break from routine, have fun with their children and much, much more!

The service includes:

  • Chat Room discussions on parenting, relationships, life-planning, personal development, etc.
  • Guest speakers from the community on topics of interest.
  • Fun outings and activities for parents and children.
  • Links to community resources, specialized health and social services, etc.

Who is the group intended for?
A young parent, or a parent over the age of 20 who has not yet completed high school or CEGEP, or a parent who has moved to Canada within the last five years.

Duration
Groups will meet three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where will the sessions take place?
The sessions are held in the Delmar area in Pointe-Claire.

Cost
Service fee is made available through a grant from the CSSS Lac St. Louis, and from participating partners, including the West Island Women's Centre, the West Island Women's Shelter, and the YMCA West Island.
